TEACHING BIO
Dr. Kate Reid is on the music faculty at Cypress College in Cypress, California and currently serves as chair of the music department as well as head of the applied music and jazz programs. She teaches the jazz vocal ensembles, jazz history, American popular music and maintains a private voice studio at the college. She conducted the college?s vocal jazz ensemble at Carnegie Hall in New York City in April 2004. She has been on the faculty of Miami-Dade Community College in Miami, Florida, the University of Manitoba Summer Jazz Camps (2001 & 2003) and has also adjudicated the Brandon jazz Festival in Manitoba, Canada in March of 2002, 2003 and 2011. Kate has served as clinician for the Fullerton College Jazz Festival in Fullerton, California and numerous FORUM music festivals throughout southern California since 2002. She has appeared several times as guest artist and clinician for the Oceanside Vocal Jazz Festival in Oceanside, California, the Cuesta College Vocal Jazz Festival in San Luis Obispo (2002, 2005, 2011). In 2008 she was the featured guest artist and clinician for the Valley High School Vocal Jazz Festival in Des Moines, Iowa in 2008. Kate also conducted the honor choir for the Anaheim Union School District in Anaheim, California in 2007. In April of 2011, Hal Leonard published the vocal method book ?How To Get The GLEE Sound? which Kate co-authored with producer/author Andy Waterman of Umbrella Media. Kate holds a B.M. in Jazz Studies from Western Michigan University (1992), a M.M. (1996) and a D.M.A. (2002) in Jazz Performance from the University of Miami.
